Naver to Abolish 'Related People Searches' and Temporarily Suspend Celebrity Comments Next Week; Daum to Follow

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver will completely abolish related search terms for people next week and temporarily suspend the comment service for entertainment articles.

On the 28th, Naver announced, "Starting from March 5th, we will revamp the service so that related search terms do not appear in search results for personal names."

Once the revamp is applied, related search terms will no longer appear when searching for personal names, stage names, activity group names, group name + personal name, or position/affiliation + personal name on Naver.

Naver explained, "There have been cases where unverified rumors or keywords that may infringe on personal rights are exposed," adding, "To respect the personal rights of the individual and minimize privacy damage, we are completely abolishing related search terms."

On the same day, Naver will temporarily suspend the comment service for entertainment news.

Naver stated, "As an internet platform operator, we wanted to maintain the value of two-way communication through comments in entertainment news, but the current technical solutions and operational policies were insufficient to resolve the issues," and added, "We have decided to close comments on entertainment news until the structural reform of the entertainment information service is completed."
