"Working from Home Then Going to Office"... Confusion at Some KT Sites

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] KT implemented remote work to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), but confusion at the field level continues, leading to criticism. The principle of 100% remote work is not being upheld in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions, and there are numerous cases where employees working remotely are still required to come to the office.

According to the industry on the 28th, KT employees expressed dissatisfaction on the anonymous community Blind, stating that work instructions inconsistent with the company's remote work standards are continuing. An employee in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk area said, "Although the 100% remote work standard was announced, a three-shift work schedule was arranged during the remote work period," adding, "Even when confirmed cases appear nearby and buildings are closed, the atmosphere does not reflect a sense of seriousness."

A marketing staff member said, "On the Galaxy S20 launch day, all marketing staff were forced to go to the agency," and added, "In the sales organization, there is an atmosphere of ignoring remote work instructions." Another employee pointed out, "Some teams do not even attempt remote work, some teams allow only certain individuals to work remotely, and some teams approve remote work but still require employees to come to the office."

Earlier, KT announced that it would implement a two-shift remote work system for all employees until March 6. The main points were ▲ mandatory remote work for pregnant women, childcare employees, and those with similar symptoms ▲ 100% remote work for eligible personnel in Daegu and Gyeongbuk ▲ rotational remote work for key positions and executives ▲ prohibition of business trips and overseas visits ▲ ban on group activities and training. However, detailed matters were to be implemented according to the situation in each division. In this process, some behaviors differing from KT’s policy appear to be occurring at certain sites.

Regarding this, KT stated, "Although we announced the remote work guidelines, since the decision was made urgently and the organization is very large, there are parts applied differently from the standards," adding, "The company is continuously encouraging the implementation of remote work and striving for smooth execution."
