In Regional Crisis, Administration and Private Sector Join Forces to 'Alleviate Resident Anxiety'... Plan to Produce and Distribute Eco-Friendly Masks and 'Annyeong Bags' for Vulnerable Groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) is witnessing a movement to respond to the community crisis centered on 'resident participation' as the scale of damage caused by the spread of COVID-19 increases.
This initiative aims to enable public and private sectors to cooperate during disaster situations through the 'Public-Private Cooperative Village Safety Network' (Public-Private Village Safety Network) created to overcome local crises together, providing mutual support and allowing daily life to continue.
As the first step, Eunpyeong-gu has established and activated a Village Safety Network hotline to quickly share 'official promotional materials' produced by the district with residents, in order to counter baseless medical information and fake news that are emerging rapidly.
Promotion efforts will also be strengthened. Plans are underway to build a public promotion line using the network.
Additionally, to assist residents who have difficulty obtaining masks, eco-friendly masks and infectious disease prevention kits called 'Annyeong Bag' will be produced and distributed mainly to vulnerable groups. Citizen action campaigns to respond to the spread of infectious diseases will be promoted, centered on volunteer centers and village community support centers.
For the 16 neighborhoods' elderly living alone, a manual for COVID-19 prevention guidelines and actions will be created and communicated directly via phone calls.
Furthermore, to prevent blind spots among vulnerable groups, public and private sectors will cooperate and respond together, gradually expanding the scope of public-private cooperation.
On the 6th, Eunpyeong-gu became the first nationwide to form a voluntary disaster prevention group involving residents, continuously conducting proactive disinfection activities at public facilities such as senior centers, welfare centers, and daycare centers within the district.
An official from Eunpyeong-gu stated, "If the public and private sectors unite to respond to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will be able to overcome this situation well," adding, "We will leverage Eunpyeong-gu's strengths in active public-private cooperation such as participatory budgeting, governance, village communities, and volunteering."
