Mayor Kwon Young-jin, "COVID-19 Daegu Cases May Reach Up to 3,000"

Mayor Kwon Young-jin, "COVID-19 Daegu Cases May Reach Up to 3,000" Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin and Future United Party leader Hwang Kyo-ahn are having a conversation in the reception room of Daegu City Hall on the morning of the 27th.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] It is predicted that the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in the Daegu area will reach 3,000.

On the 27th, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin met with Hwang Kyo-ahn, leader of the United Future Party, at Daegu City Hall and revealed this.

Mayor Kwon said, "The number of confirmed cases has now exceeded 1,000. The city's (provisional) statistics are 200 to 300 more than those of the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention," adding, "Starting today, a full investigation of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus members in Daegu is underway, and we expect quite a few cases to emerge from there as well."

He continued, "So far, 82% of those tested with symptoms have been confirmed positive," and said, "If we investigate the remaining 6,000 people, even if only 10% test positive, that would be 600 cases, and testing among citizens will also yield cases."

He stated, "If the number of confirmed cases levels off between 2,000 and 3,000, I believe early stabilization is possible," adding, "The next week will be critical."

Leader Hwang said, "Medical personnel are risking their lives to provide care, and I will urge the government to support them," and added, "If you tell us what our party should do, we will try to organize everything systematically to take action."

Daegu City requested Leader Hwang to help secure an additional 1,000 hospital beds, recruit more than 300 medical personnel, provide early funding for infectious disease-dedicated hospitals, and promptly supply masks and protective equipment for medical staff.
