[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yu Deok-yeol) held the "Traditional Market Autonomous Quarantine Team Launch Ceremony" at Cheongnyangni General Market in Jegi-dong at 2 p.m. on the 27th and began full-scale operations to block the spread of COVID-19.
The launch ceremony was held with about 80 participants, including Yu Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, autonomous quarantine team members, and traditional market officials. The attendees shouted a vigorous slogan to protect the traditional market from COVID-19 and pledged to carry out thorough quarantine measures.
After the launch ceremony, Mayor Yu Deok-yeol and the quarantine team disinfected the stores in Cheongnyangni General Market directly and urged merchants to strictly follow COVID-19 prevention guidelines.
The "Traditional Market Autonomous Quarantine Team" of Dongdaemun-gu, which started activities from this day, includes a total of 80 merchants from 21 traditional markets in the area, conducting quarantine for about 6,000 stores in traditional markets and nearby shopping districts.
The quarantine team autonomously conducts disinfection twice a week and performs additional disinfection upon request from store owners.
The autonomous quarantine team will continue its activities until the COVID-19 spread situation is resolved.
The district plans to continuously support necessary quarantine supplies such as disinfectants, quarantine equipment, protective clothing, goggles, boots, and gloves to facilitate the smooth activities of the autonomous quarantine team.
Mayor Yu Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu said, "I feel reassured that the traditional market merchants have voluntarily stepped up for COVID-19 quarantine," and added, "All Dongdaemun-gu employees, including myself, will do our best without letting our guard down until the end to minimize the damage to residents caused by COVID-19."
