POSCO E&C, Third Employee Confirmed COVID-19 Positive at Bundang Site

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] POSCO Engineering & Construction has gone on high alert as a third confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has emerged at its construction sites.


According to Seongnam City Hall on the 27th, employee A, who was working at the POSCO Engineering & Construction site in Jeongja-dong, Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, has been confirmed positive for COVID-19. A resides in Yongin City. Accordingly, POSCO Engineering & Construction plans to close the Bundang construction site until the 3rd of next month.


Earlier on the same day, a confirmed case was reported at the Yeouido Park One site under construction by POSCO Engineering & Construction in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, leading to the closure of the site. Employee B, who is affiliated with the headquarters and manages the site office, was finally confirmed positive for COVID-19 that day.


The site has been temporarily closed since the afternoon, and Yeongdeungpo-gu has carried out follow-up measures including disinfection. Although this employee’s home address is in Incheon, he used accommodation in Yeouido-dong on weekdays. He showed fever symptoms on the 21st, stayed at his Incheon home over the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd, and after returning to the site on the 24th, stayed at the Yeouido-dong accommodation. On the morning of the 26th, he was tested at the Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital screening clinic and was confirmed positive that afternoon.


Yeouido Park One is a large-scale complex facility being built on approximately 46,465㎡ of land, consisting of two office buildings with 7 basement floors and 69 and 53 above-ground floors respectively, one shopping mall with 8 floors, and one hotel with 31 floors. It is scheduled for completion in July this year.


Prior to this, on the 26th, employee C working at the Bundang site of POSCO Engineering & Construction was confirmed positive. It was confirmed that C last met a colleague who had visited Daegu on the 15th-16th at 11 a.m. on the 20th.
