[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The government will support up to 30 million KRW in production costs for about 10 selected content planning proposals that succeed in attracting private investment (crowd funding) to revitalize the one-person media industry.
The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Radio Promotion Association announced the one-person media original content production support project with these details on the 28th.
The Ministry of Science and ICT regards the one-person media industry as a new opportunity for innovative growth in the 5G era and provides systematic support throughout the entire cycle from creator discovery, content production, to overseas expansion.
The announced project is a production support project for one-person media content, which has been linked with crowd funding since 2016. Especially this year, the support target has been expanded from the existing MCN (Multi Channel Network, a business that manages and supports video content created by individual creators while sharing profits) to include one-person media creators. The target is companies whose main (or sub) business is in the one-person media content creator field according to the National Tax Service industry code.
The Ministry of Science and ICT will support up to 30 million KRW in content production costs to businesses that succeed in attracting crowd funding among about 10 selected content planning proposals. The completed content will be provided with opportunities for securing its own intellectual property rights (IP) and business consultations with domestic and overseas platform operators, and one top winner will receive the Minister of Science and ICT Award and a prize of 3 million KRW.
A Ministry of Science and ICT official said, “We expect that the original content production support project will activate the production and distribution of one-person media content and further expand private interest,” adding, “The government plans to maintain continuous interest so that the one-person media industry ecosystem can grow healthily.”
The related project briefing session will be held online due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). On March 11 at 3 p.m., it will be uploaded on YouTube by searching the '1in Media Changjakja Yangseong Jiwon Center’ channel.
