Resolving Local Issues in the 7th Civilian Administration: "Public Contest Projects as the Key"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 27th that it is actively promoting public contest projects to invigorate the local government during the 7th term of the elected administration.
As the importance of public contest projects to secure regional development momentum is increasing, the county established a Public Contest Project T/F team in the first half of this year and is building a support system for overall management and project discovery of various public contest projects.
With the establishment of the only dedicated public contest project department in Jeollanam-do, the county holds bi-monthly reports on the status of public contest project responses and has established detailed plans for responding to public contest projects this year, raising expectations for systematic and prompt measures.
In particular, the deputy county governor has improved the work process so that he directly oversees everything from document receipt to the decision on whether to apply, supporting public officials to take an interest in discovering public contest projects and to strengthen their capabilities.
Through the Public Contest Project T/F team, projects related to multiple departments such as the Life SOC Complex Project and Jeonnam-type Regional Growth Strategic Projects are actively coordinated between departments, serving as a control tower that provides direction.
In this regard, on the 21st, the county visited the Life SOC Promotion Team of the Office for Government Policy Coordination, discussed major changes in the guideline finalization stage, and held preliminary meetings with relevant departments for project discovery.
Through monitoring of public contest projects by departments, the county provides consulting and advice necessary for applying to large-scale public contest projects and encourages early preparation for projects requiring prior arrangements, thereby increasing the application and selection rates of public contest projects.
Additionally, in the first half of this year, the county plans to maximize capabilities by conducting capacity-building training for employees so that many public contest projects that residents can feel will be selected.
Meanwhile, last year, Haenam-gun was selected for a total of 67 public contest projects worth 75.4 billion KRW, including the construction of the ‘Ttangkkeut Family Harmony Center’ with a total project cost of 14 billion KRW, the largest ever.
County Governor Myung Hyun-kwan said, “The importance of public contest projects to secure regional development momentum in connection with the direction of the 7th term elected administration is increasing,” and added, “Judging that public contest projects hold the key to solving local government pending projects, we will make every effort to secure national and provincial funds through monitoring central government trends, sharing information, and establishing cooperative systems.”
