[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Lee Seok-hyung, a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly representing Gwangsan-gap, Gwangju Metropolitan City from the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 26th, "I will do my utmost to improve the conditions for using sports facilities so that athletes can enjoy regular exercise and hobbies without burden, and to expand sports facilities."
Preliminary candidate Lee Seok-hyung explained, "Some chairpersons of the Gwangsan-gu Sports for All Association pointed out that sports facilities in the area are severely lacking, and the Gwangju Women's University Municipal Universiade Gymnasium not only has high rental fees but also does not accept reservations, making it impossible to hold competitions locally. They expressed the opinion that institutional measures need to be established because the gymnasium is focused on miscellaneous planning exhibitions and event rentals for rental income, failing to fulfill its original role as a sports facility."
He added, "Sports enthusiasts in Gwangsan-gu face difficulties such as bearing heavy fees for using sports facilities and thus use facilities in the Jeonnam region. I will actively work to change ordinances by consulting with Gwangju Mayor Lee Yong-seop, heads of district offices, and others as soon as possible regarding free use of sports facilities in the Gwangju area and any inconveniences related to facility use."
He promised, "The government announced 16 major tasks last year under the 'Innovative Inclusive Nation for Shared Prosperity' initiative and supported 8.6 trillion won for expanding social overhead capital (SOC) in daily life sectors such as libraries and gymnasiums. I will actively attract national funds for daily life sectors to build various sports facilities so that sports enthusiasts in Gwangsan-gu can pursue self-realization and happiness through physical fitness and lead a healthy and high-quality life."
He continued, "For sports facilities owned by the central and local governments, I will promote free use by sports for all organizations and push for related legal and ordinance revisions to establish institutional measures preventing rental or use for purposes other than sports events. I will do my best to achieve social integration through the equalization of sports and contribute to the promotion of national health and welfare."
