Severe Criticism Mentioning Last Weekend's Gwanghwamun Rally
"Because of These Crazy Groups, the People of Namjosun Are Unhappy"
Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon, chairman of the Korea Christian Federation, who is accused of violating the Public Official Election Act, is leaving the Seoul Central District Court in Seocho-gu after completing the pre-arrest detention hearing on the 24th. Despite the authorities' ban on gatherings to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), North Korea criticized Jeon Gwang-hoon, the chairman of the Christian Council of Korea, who forcibly held a rally in Gwanghwamun last weekend, saying on the 27th, "Hurry up and be buried in the grave."
North Korea's propaganda outlet for South Korea, Uriminzokkiri, mentioned the rally led by Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon last week in an article titled "Strange Reason for the Rally," claiming, "Because of these crazy groups who do not regard people's lives even as much as a fly's life, the safety of the lives of the South Korean people is severely violated, and misfortune and suffering are becoming even more aggravated."
The outlet said, "(At the rally) Jeon Gwang-hoon recklessly ranted that the rally should not be banned using the excuse of the spread of the novel coronavirus infection, hysterically boasting, 'Even if life ends due to virus infection, the rally will continue,' and incited people by saying, 'Everyone come running to Gwanghwamun Square next week.'
It added, "What is even more outrageous is the sophistry of Jeon Gwang-hoon and other far-right conservative forces, saying things like 'If the rally is stopped because of the epidemic, only the current regime will benefit,' or 'The disease you had will rather be cured.'
Uriminzokkiri raised its voice, saying, "Truly, this is the reckless disgrace of a brutal gang blinded by the desire to seize power, who do not care about the lives of the South Korean people, which are as precious as life itself."
It continued, "The evil spirits who hope that the epidemic spreads further, causing mass deaths among the South Korean people and plunging society into extreme chaos, are none other than Jeon Gwang-hoon and the far-right conservative faction."
Uriminzokkiri stated, "The far-right conservative faction, who are desperate to incite more anxiety and fear in South Korean society with their appalling reckless acts and who cannot bear not to take people's lives, are the 'malignant virus' that must be eradicated urgently," and argued, "If they want to die so badly, the best course is not to harm others but to bury themselves in the grave as soon as possible."
On the morning of the 23rd, the third day since Seoul prohibited gatherings at Gwanghwamun Square, Seoul Plaza, and Cheonggye Plaza to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon is speaking on the stage at a rally organized by the Moon Jae-in Resignation National Struggle Headquarters (Beomtu-bon) held on a nearby road of Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul.
Meanwhile, the Moon Jae-in Resignation National Struggle Headquarters (Beomtubon), led by Pastor Jeon Gwang-hoon, forcibly held rallies at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on the 22nd and 23rd.
Despite Seoul city banning gatherings at places like Gwanghwamun Square due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19 and the police announcing plans for legal action, Beomtubon held rallies for two consecutive days.
Participants gathered on the sidewalk next to Gwanghwamun Square pushed away barricades installed by the police between the road and the sidewalk before the rally started and advanced onto six lanes of the road and part of Gwanghwamun Square. According to Beomtubon, about 8,000 believers and supporters attended the rally that day.
Jeon Gwang-hoon, chairman of the Christian Council of Korea, told the participants, "You have come to the rally overcoming the oppression of Moon Jae-in and Park Won-soon because the Lord is praying for you," and claimed, "Those of you who came to the Gwanghwamun worship are true Christians. The disease you had will rather be cured."
He continued, "Is there anyone among you infected with the virus? Then come to the worship next week. The Lord will heal everyone," adding, "Even if He does not heal you, it is okay. Our destination is heaven, and we are those who have overcome death."
