Aiming to Open in September Next Year with 1 Basement and 5 Above-Ground Floors... Designed as a Community Cultural Space for Residents Including Library, Performance Hall, Daycare, Indoor Children's Park, and Book Cafe

Dongjak-gu 'Heukseok-dong Complex Library' Groundbreaking Ceremony


[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced on the 27th that construction has begun this month on the Heukseok-dong Complex Library, a cultural community space for residents.


The district aims to open the library in September next year, transforming it into a cultural space for residents of all ages.


The Heukseok-dong Complex Library to be built (Heukseok-dong 340-1) will have a total floor area of 4,456.30㎡, with 2 basement levels and 5 above-ground floors.


After advisory meetings with district officials, experts, and residents, the basement floors 1 and 2 will consist of ▲parking lot ▲archive storage ▲performance hall ▲offices, among others.


The above-ground floors 1 to 5 will be a shared space for a daycare center and the library, including ▲daycare center ▲book caf? ▲cultural materials room ▲general materials room ▲community space.


In particular, an indoor children's park will be created so that children can play freely even on days with severe fine dust.


The district plans to develop the Heukseok-dong Complex Library as a cultural playground for residents and an open library for all age groups, providing a lifestyle-oriented public library service.


In addition, the district began remodeling work on the Kim Young-sam Public Library (Maebong-ro 1) on the 4th of this month.


With a total floor area of 6,503.19㎡ and 5 basement levels to 8 above-ground floors, it will be developed as a complex cultural space for residents, including ▲seminar and community rooms ▲book caf? ▲outdoor book yard ▲slow learner materials room, and is scheduled to open in October this year.


Lee Chang-woo, Mayor of Dongjak-gu, said, “Along with the construction of the Heukseok-dong Complex Library, which combines a daycare center and book caf?, we will do our best to expand living SOC within a 10-minute walk, including the Kim Young-sam Public Library, youth creative innovation experience spaces, and the Noryangjin complex cultural facility.”

The district has been actively operating the second smart library installed last year at Chongshin University Entrance Station, following the first smart library located at Sindaebang Samgeori Station.
