Dongdaemun-gu Extends Suspension of Culture and Sports Classes and Closure of Multi-use Facilities


[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol) has extended the suspension period of cultural and sports classes, which were initially scheduled to be temporarily suspended until the 29th, until the situation stabilizes due to the escalation of the COVID-19 infectious disease crisis alert to the severe stage and confirmed cases occurring in neighboring areas.


Accordingly, cultural, sports, and educational classes held at 14 community centers, Imun Sports and Culture Center, Dongdaemun-gu Gymnasium, Dongdaemun-gu Citizen Sports Center, Dongdaemun-gu Disabled Welfare Center, Dongmun Disabled Welfare Center, Dongdaemun Senior Welfare Center, Jangan Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, Dongdaemun Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and Women's Welfare Center will be suspended until the situation stabilizes.


Additionally, the closure period of 27 public libraries has been extended until the situation stabilizes, and 10 public youth reading rooms, the Youth Counseling Welfare Center, and the Youth Support Center Dream have also entered temporary closure starting from the 22nd.


Fees for paid classes will be carried over, and refunds are also available.


The district has sent individual text messages to users to inform them once again about the extension of the suspension period and closures, and posted notices on facility entrances to prevent any inconvenience to residents.

Mayor Yoo Deok-yeol of Dongdaemun-gu stated, “As the COVID-19 infectious disease crisis alert has been raised to the severe level and confirmed cases have occurred around our district, we have inevitably extended the suspension period of classes for the safety of our residents. We ask for the understanding and cooperation of all residents, and Dongdaemun-gu will do its best in quarantine and prevention activities to protect the health and safety of our residents from COVID-19.”
