[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] An elderly person infected with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has died in Hokkaido, Japan. The number of deaths due to COVID-19 in Japan has reached 6.


According to Kyodo News on the 26th, Hokkaido confirmed the COVID-19 infection of an elderly person in Hakodate City, Hokkaido, who died the previous day. The official number of deaths in Japan from COVID-19 has increased to 6.


This is the second death from COVID-19 outside of passengers on the cruise ship Diamond Princess. On the 13th, an elderly woman in her 80s residing in Kanagawa Prefecture died after being infected with COVID-19. She was not a passenger on the Diamond Princess.


On the 20th, an elderly man and woman in their 80s who had been transferred from the Diamond Princess to a hospital for treatment died. On the 23rd and 25th, respectively, two men in their 80s who were on the ship also died while receiving hospital treatment. All were passengers whose health deteriorated, leading to their transfer to the hospital where they passed away.
