[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-gi] There was a case where a defendant who was absent from court during a trial and had an arrest warrant issued by the court avoided detention due to showing symptoms of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the legal community on the 26th, the Criminal Division 12 of the Seoul Northern District Court issued an arrest warrant on the 19th of this month for defendant A, who was undergoing a criminal trial and recently failed to appear in court without any particular reason.
However, A, who was apprehended through a wanted notice, showed fever symptoms and had recently visited Daegu, raising suspicion of COVID-19 infection. After consultation with the prosecution, the court decided to cancel the detention of A on the 24th of this month.
A was tested and confirmed negative for COVID-19.
