Candidate Kim Myung-jin Proposes "Resident Participation-Based Urban Innovation Project"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Seon-gang] Kim Myung-jin, a preliminary candidate for the National Assembly representing Seogu-gap, Gwangju Metropolitan City from the Minsaeng Party, announced on the 26th that he will promote a ‘Resident Participation Urban Innovation Project’ to create a luxury residential welfare complex and establish an advanced model of Gwangju-style urban regeneration.

Candidate Kim Myung-jin stated, “Existing urban maintenance projects such as redevelopment and reconstruction have focused solely on physical improvements and proceeded in a uniform manner of complete demolition and construction of high-rise apartments without considering the characteristics of the area,” adding, “Low-income groups and tenants were evicted without any measures, and their housing welfare rights were inevitably ignored.”

He continued, “Through the resident participation urban innovation project, the concept of a city where ‘residents are the owners’ means that from the early stages of urban regeneration, residents freely participate and express their opinions, and people living according to the village’s characteristics change the city,” emphasizing, “We must move away from the physical improvement methods of existing uniform urban maintenance projects and promote a complex urban regeneration project that harmonizes the region’s social, economic, cultural, and welfare aspects.”

He said, “▲ Formation of resident councils to restore local community ▲ Improvement of infrastructure through public funds ▲ Maintenance of libraries and support for activation of after-school programs ▲ Revitalization of social enterprises for village development to create jobs and income for local residents are necessary,” promising, “To this end, we will improve systems to secure public resources and actively seek cooperation plans with resident councils and others to transform the old downtown area from a ‘place people want to leave’ to a ‘place people want to live.’”
