Three Additional COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Daejeon...Complete Survey of Shincheonji Daejeon Church Members (Summary 2)

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have occurred in Daejeon.


According to Daejeon City on the 26th, a total of 3 new COVID-19 confirmed cases were reported in the region on that day. According to the city, the 4th confirmed case in the region is a 40-year-old female nurse residing in Yuseong-gu, working at Seongse Hospital located in Bongmyeong-dong, Yuseong-gu.


At the time the nurse was confirmed positive, the city quarantined 39 people including inpatients and medical staff at Seongse Hospital in a cohort isolation, and 7 medical staff who had left work earlier were placed under self-quarantine, the city explained.


The 5th confirmed case is a 33-year-old male residing in Yuseong-gu, confirmed to be a researcher working at the Korea Forest Service Research Institute in Dunsan-dong, Seo-gu. This man is currently hospitalized and isolated in a nationally designated inpatient treatment bed at Chungnam National University.


The 6th confirmed case is a 39-year-old female working in Daedeok-gu, employed as a station attendant at Wolpyeong Station on Urban Railway Line 1. This woman is currently awaiting hospitalization.


The city is conducting an epidemiological investigation on the movement routes and close contacts of the confirmed cases and plans to disclose related information as soon as it is identified, while taking disinfection measures for all facilities along the movement routes based on the investigation results.


With the additional confirmed cases on this day, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Daejeon has increased to 6.


Separately, the city is also conducting a full investigation targeting the Shincheonji Jesus Church in Daejeon. Previously, the city received a list of 13,447 Shincheonji Daejeon Church members from the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ).


Accordingly, the city plans to deploy 100 public officials seconded from various departments to conduct telephone surveys from the afternoon of the 26th to the 27th to check whether Shincheonji Daejeon Church members have symptoms of COVID-19. The survey items include overseas business trips, visits to Daegu, pilgrimage, and any health abnormalities.


Additionally, members identified as requiring management through the survey will be managed in cooperation with the district health centers.


A city official stated, “We plan to maintain the Shincheonji response (TF) team operation until the COVID-19 situation ends,” and “We ask citizens who are aware of any information related to Shincheonji to actively report it.”


Meanwhile, in Cheonan, Chungnam, Ms. D (44, female) was tested at Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital (screening clinic) on the 24th due to symptoms such as fever and has been under self-quarantine. She was finally confirmed positive around 9:40 a.m. on the 26th. It was confirmed that Ms. D first showed symptoms such as fever on the 23rd.


Ms. D is currently being transferred to an infectious disease management institution (negative pressure isolation ward) and receiving inpatient treatment. The province plans to finalize Ms. D’s main symptoms through epidemiological investigation.
