US Imposes Sanctions on Corporations and Individuals from China, Russia, and Others Related to Iranian Missiles

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] The United States has imposed sanctions on 13 entities and individuals from China, Russia, Turkey, and Iraq that assisted Iran's missile program.

According to the U.S. State Department on the 25th (local time), the new sanctions are pursuant to the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act (INKSNA). The sanctions target include three Chinese corporations, one Turkish corporation, and Chinese national Luo Dingyuan, among others.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo stated in a press release that this decision was the result of a periodic review of sanctionable activities under the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act.

Secretary Pompeo mentioned that these measures demonstrate that Iran's missile program remains a significant proliferation concern.

Enacted in 2000, the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act stipulates that sanctions can be imposed if equipment or technology listed on multilateral export control lists is found to have been acquired from or transferred to Iran, Syria, or North Korea.
