[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Singapore has decided to ban entry to those who have recently visited Daegu City and Cheongdo County in Gyeongsangbuk-do, which are special management areas designated by the South Korean government. This decision was made due to concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

According to local media such as The Straits Times on the 25th, the Singapore Ministry of Health announced that all short-term visitors who have visited these two areas within the past 14 days will be banned from entering the country. This is an additional measure following the travel advisory issued on the 23rd, recommending refraining from travel to these two regions.

The Ministry of Health explained that since many of the current 977 confirmed cases are related to a religious group in Daegu and a hospital in Cheongdo, travelers coming from these places could pose an increased risk to Singapore. Additionally, the government joint task force stated that they are prepared to take further measures if necessary.

Meanwhile, the Singapore government plans to notify Singaporean citizens and permanent residents who have visited Daegu and Cheongdo within the past 14 days to undergo self-quarantine. This measure requires them to stay at home without leaving for 14 days from the day they return to Singapore. The 14-day period is known as the maximum incubation period of the COVID-19 virus.
