[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hye-min] A Mongolian man who was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and was undergoing isolation treatment at Myongji Hospital in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, died on the 25th. He is the 11th death among COVID-19 confirmed cases and the first foreigner case.

The man had chronic liver disease and end-stage renal failure and was recuperating at his home in Byeollae-dong, Namyangju City. On the morning of the 24th around 6 a.m., his underlying condition worsened, and he was transferred to Myongji Hospital in Goyang.

Afterwards, a COVID-19 test was conducted at Myongji Hospital, which confirmed a positive result, and he was isolated and treated in a negative pressure room. During this process, cardiac arrest occurred twice, once in the morning and once in the afternoon of the same day.

Myongji Hospital stated, "He was a Mongolian patient who came to Korea for a liver transplant," and "He was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was receiving treatment, but his underlying disease also affected his organ function, leading to his death at 5:50 p.m. on the same day."

The hospital added, "After the two cardiac arrests, the family decided with the medical staff not to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation if another cardiac arrest occurred," and "Since his underlying conditions involving the kidneys, liver, and heart were already severe, it is reasonable to consider the cause of death to be the underlying diseases rather than COVID-19."

Meanwhile, the Mongolian man, Mr. A, entered the country on the 12th for a liver transplant and received treatment at the emergency room of Seoul National University Hospital from the 12th to the 18th.
