Visited Daegu Nam-gu with many COVID-19 confirmed cases... Urged Nam-gu officials to provide care services for vulnerable groups
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] On the afternoon of the 25th, President Moon Jae-in visited Nam-gu, Daegu, where many confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been reported, and said, "Protecting Daegu well is not only protecting the safety of Daegu citizens but also protecting the safety of the nation. I ask you to stay strong and do your best until this situation is over." Jo Jae-gu, head of Daegu Nam-gu Office, was present at the site.
President Moon said, "This is not just a problem for Daegu but a problem for the Republic of Korea and the entire nation. We are responding with extraordinary determination, and Daegu City is making every effort to provide the necessary support and will continue to do so. Within Daegu, Nam-gu has especially seen many confirmed cases and many people under self-quarantine, so I believe the public officials of Nam-gu Office are working very hard," he added.
President Moon said, "We are worried about the safety of our citizens and also about the significant impact on Daegu's local economy. On top of that, since the situation is difficult, there is also great concern that care for vulnerable groups might be somewhat neglected."
President Moon said, "With the school opening postponed, there is an urgent need for care. Schools are operating care classrooms for families in need, but there is still concern, so many parents may be providing care at home directly. We should enable those people to use care leave, adjust working hours, and benefit from flexible work arrangements," he ordered.
President Moon said, "There are many welfare facilities for vulnerable groups in Nam-gu. Please ensure that care for the elderly and disabled continues without neglect. Especially if welfare centers or facilities have to close or suspend operations, please assist daily life through visiting services, check on them by phone, deliver meals if necessary, and take meticulous care," he said.
Meanwhile, Han Jeong-woo, director of the Blue House Press Office, explained in a morning briefing that day, "In the case of Nam-gu, Daegu, among the total confirmed cases nationwide, Daegu has a significant number of confirmed cases, and among them, Nam-gu has a particularly high number of confirmed cases. It is a very difficult area, so the visit is being made."
