"Moon Resembles Chinese President" 'Impeach Moon Jae-in' 청와대 Petition Gains 130,000 Supporters

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon, Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] A Blue House petition calling for the impeachment of President Moon Jae-in over responsibility for the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) surpassed 130,000 signatures on the 25th.

The petition titled "We urge the impeachment of President Moon Jae-in," posted on the Blue House petition board on the 4th, had 137,180 supporters as of 2:18 p.m. on the same day.

The petitioner stated, "Looking at President Moon Jae-in's response to the COVID-19 situation, it feels like we are seeing the president of China, not South Korea," and added, "Mask prices have surged more than tenfold domestically and shortages continue, yet the president supported China with 3 million masks."

He continued, "While a total of 62 countries worldwide have imposed strong sanctions such as banning entry of Chinese nationals and foreigners who have transited through China, our government hesitated and the measure they came up with was a 'complete ban on entry from foreigners who visited Hubei Province within two weeks starting from the 4th,'" expressing indignation, "It is unacceptable at a time when patients are emerging throughout China."

He further pointed out, "More than 5 million Chinese people left the Wuhan area just before the lockdown," and "Allowing all Chinese nationals in other regions to continue entering and exiting South Korea is essentially the same as keeping the borders open."

He added, "Currently, confirmed cases are increasing domestically, and even New Zealand, which has no confirmed cases, is taking strong entry ban measures," and "About 20,000 Chinese nationals are still entering South Korea daily."

The petitioner emphasized, "As the president of South Korea, the most important thing should be 'protecting our own citizens,'" and criticized, "If the president had considered the citizens, entry bans should have been imposed on all regions of China." He concluded by saying, "It is hard to think of President Moon Jae-in as our country's president," and "I urge his impeachment."
