Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Recruiting Youth Interns for Urban Regeneration New Deal

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, together with the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), is recruiting the first batch of 2020 Urban Regeneration New Deal Youth Interns to train experts in the field of urban regeneration.

The Urban Regeneration New Deal Youth Internship is a program that allows local youth to gain work experience at local government urban regeneration support centers while simultaneously developing job skills and building careers related to their majors. Last year, a total of 5,400 youths applied, recording a competition rate of 21 to 1.

The Ministry of Land and LH plan to operate an improved internship program this year. Interns will be managed not as workers but as trainees with enhanced education and training. Last year, interns were dispatched to centers immediately after the launch ceremony, but starting this year, a one-month basic training will be conducted before dispatching interns to the centers. During this period, interns will receive education on understanding urban regeneration, basic competencies, and customer service.

The scale of interns will be expanded to more than twice that of last year, considering the high demand from youth. Last year, 260 interns were selected in one round, but this year, 300 interns will be selected twice, in the first and second half of the year, totaling 600 interns.

The matching process between interns and centers will also be improved. Last year, interns and centers were matched considering only regional factors, but this year, interns will be matched not only based on regional factors but also on the ideal talent profile required by the centers, so that the internship experience can be more directly linked to employment at the centers.

The application period is 14 days, from March 4 to March 17.
