POSCO E&C Builds 'Smart Safety Solution'

POSCO Engineering & Construction has established an integrated safety management system called the ‘Smart Safety Solution,’ which combines Internet of Things (IoT) technology.

The ‘Smart Dashboard,’ known as a smart safety compass in the palm of your hand, is installed on site managers’ smartphones, allowing them to simultaneously check real-time site information collected through smart safety technologies such as cameras, drones, CCTV, and sensors at each location. In emergencies, safety measures are immediately instructed to all workers on site or in the relevant area.

When unsafe factors such as high-risk situations, unsafe worker behaviors, or unauthorized intrusions are detected through the 360-degree cameras installed on tower cranes, alarms are sent to the relevant personnel, and safety compliance messages along with warning broadcasts are instantly sent to all workers.

For areas difficult to view with tower crane cameras, drones are deployed, and in places not easily visible from outside, such as underground work sites, mobile smart video equipment monitors safety blind spots within the site.

In confined spaces, gas sensors and traffic light-type electronic signboards are installed to transmit gas concentration data in real time to the Smart Dashboard and monitor hazardous situations. If harmful gas exceeds the permissible concentration, the ventilation system automatically operates on site, and warnings on the electronic signboard and smartphone alerts are delivered to workers, enabling evacuation.

POSCO Engineering & Construction is currently piloting the Smart Safety Solution at the ‘The Sharp Gunsan D.Ocean City’ apartment complex site. It plans to expand the application to all sites thereafter.
