[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The Korea Mobile Distribution Association (KMDA) has newly appointed Lee Yong-geol as co-chairman through its 2020 regular general meeting.
According to KMDA on the 25th, Lee Yong-geol, who had served as a director, was nominated as the new chairman following the resignation of the previous chairman. With Lee Yong-geol's official appointment at the regular general meeting, KMDA now has a two co-chairman system alongside Chairman Kang Seong-ho.
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Lee Yong-geol said, "I feel a heavy responsibility being elected as co-chairman representing the distribution sector of the mobile telecommunications industry, which is facing various difficult circumstances," adding, "Distributors should not judge each other but unite as one to overcome the current hardships."
At the regular general meeting, KMDA also discussed and approved this year's business plans in addition to the appointment of the new chairman. A key focus is to realize tangible results in 2020 based on the 2019 win-win agreement.
Specifically, the plans include ▲in the Fair Trade Commission's win-win sector, signing a ‘Fair Trade Agreement’ between telecom companies and each council ▲in the Korea Communications Commission's win-win sector, operating a reporting system and unfair practice monitoring to eradicate inconvenience laws ▲in the Shared Growth Committee's win-win sector, operating a cooperation center for managing the implementation of agreements to reduce market share between large corporations and subsidiaries.
Furthermore, to protect the proactive rights and interests of mobile telecommunications distribution, the strategy includes △participation in amendments to laws related to fair trade in the telecommunications sector ▲prevention of the legalization of self-sufficiency devices and participation in remodeling the Mobile Device Distribution Act ▲promotion of specialization in telecommunications distribution in preparation for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
KMDA Chairman Kang Seong-ho said, "Amid the already difficult mobile telecommunications distribution situation, the COVID-19 crisis has added to our challenges, but let us all unite to overcome this," adding, "I will work closely with the newly elected co-chairman from today's general meeting to lead improvements in the distribution environment for our members."
