[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] On the 24th, Park Ji-won, a member of the Alternative New Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea ahead of the April 15 general election, calling it "arrogant."
On that day, Park appeared on KBS Radio's 'Kim Kyung-rae's Strongest Current Affairs' and said, "I advocated for an electoral alliance with the Democratic Party, but they said no."
He also stated, "Even the progressive Kyunghyang Shinmun described it as 'the weakened Democratic Party, the strengthened United Party,'" adding, "There is no reshuffling happening now. The reform nominations are actually being led by the United Party."
Park predicted that if the United Future Party and its proportional representation party perform well in the April 15 general election, the ruling party could change. He said, "They created a mixed-member proportional representation system and said it would be beneficial, but the United Future Party ended up creating the Future Korea Party. At that time, I suggested they create a 'Future Democratic Party,' but now it's too late."
He continued, "If supporters of the United Future Party back the Future Korea Party, I believe 140 seats are possible," emphasizing, "Then the ruling party would change. If we lose the Speaker of the National Assembly and the ruling party changes, with only two years left in the president's term, can reforms based on laws and systems be achieved? At that time, there will be no '4+1' coalition either."
Regarding the contest in Seoul Gwangjin District between former Blue House spokesperson Ko Min-jung and former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon in the general election, he said, "You never know until the election results come out," adding, "Whether Ko Min-jung or Oh Se-hoon wins, it's not even my party, so why should I take sides?"
