COVID-19 Cases Confirmed at Pohang University of Science and Technology... School Closure Decided

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Ju Cheol-in] A confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) has occurred at Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) located in Nam-gu, Pohang, Gyeongbuk, leading to a temporary school closure.

According to POSTECH on the 23rd, the school was notified in the afternoon by the Pohang Nam-gu Public Health Center of a positive diagnosis for a female employee in her 20s at the school’s partner institution (APCTP). Consequently, related facilities were closed and a one-day school closure was decided for the 24th.

According to the epidemiological investigation by Pohang City on the same day, it was confirmed that the female employee used the POSTECH faculty cafeteria, POSFLEX shopping area, College of Engineering Physics Building, College of Engineering faculty cafeteria, welfare center convenience store, and POSCO International Hall Chinese restaurant from the 17th to the 21st. The confirmed case is known to live alone in a professor’s apartment.

Kim Muhwan, President of POSTECH, stated, "We have immediately closed the related facilities along the confirmed case’s movement path as notified by Pohang City and are implementing emergency disinfection measures."

President Kim added, "The temporary school closure for one day on the 24th is a measure taken with the safety and health of all members in mind. During the closure period, we will thoroughly sanitize the entire campus, including all on-campus facilities visited by the confirmed case, to ensure everyone can attend school with peace of mind."
