[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 23rd that it will officially sponsor Ko Jin-young, the world No. 1 female golfer, for three years from this year through 2022.


LG Electronics explained that it decided on this sponsorship by highly valuing Ko Jin-young's clear sense of purpose and her challenging spirit toward excellence.


During the contract period, Ko Jin-young will wear tops bearing the logo of LG Electronics' ultra-premium home appliance brand ‘LG SIGNATURE’ in domestic and international competitions. She also plans to serve as a brand ambassador for LG SIGNATURE.


Since Ko mainly competes on the international stage, LG Electronics expects her to significantly contribute to promoting the LG SIGNATURE brand to global customers.


Last year, Ko Jin-young won four titles, including two major tournaments on the LPGA Tour (ANA Inspiration and Evian Championship), rising to world No. 1. Notably, she became the first Korean player to simultaneously win the Player of the Year, Money Leader, and Vare Trophy (lowest scoring average) awards.


Ko Jin-young said, “I am pleased to be able to work with a reliable partner like LG Electronics,” adding, “I will repay LG Electronics' sponsorship by delivering the best performance on the world stage.”


Since the launch of the ultra-premium ‘LG SIGNATURE,’ LG Electronics has been strengthening its premium brand image through sponsorships of major women's golf tournaments and players.


Since 2017, LG Electronics has officially sponsored the Evian Championship, one of the world's five major women's golf tournaments. In addition, by sponsoring top-tier players such as Ko Jin-young and Park Sung-hyun, LG Electronics is promoting the brand value of ‘LG SIGNATURE,’ which aims for excellence, to customers.


Kim Jin-hong, Executive Vice President of LG Electronics' Global Marketing Center, emphasized, “The brand image of ultra-premium LG SIGNATURE aligns well with Ko Jin-young, who performs at the highest level on the world stage with solid fundamentals,” and added, “We will actively support Ko Jin-young to further develop.”
