[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu Reporter]The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that due to the significant increase in confirmed cases of the "Novel Coronavirus Infection" (COVID-19) in the Daegu area, the "60th Anniversary 2.28 Democratic Movement Commemoration Ceremony," which was scheduled to be held in Daegu on the 28th, has been canceled.
This commemoration ceremony is an event to inherit the historical significance and noble spirit of the 2.28 Democratic Movement, in which students in the Daegu area resisted dictatorship and fraudulent elections in 1960. It was originally scheduled to be held at the Concert House in Jung-gu, Daegu on the 28th.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs explained on the 21st, "We were preparing the event by comprehensively considering the opinions of the 2.28 Democratic Movement Commemoration Association and other factors to reduce the scale of attendance and establish quarantine measures," adding, "However, due to the sharp increase in confirmed cases, reflecting the opinions of related organizations and the local community, the event has been canceled."
Separately from the cancellation of this commemoration ceremony, the Ministry plans to produce various content to promote the 2.28 Democratic Movement, which laid the foundation of democracy in the Republic of Korea, to inform the public about the meaning and value of the democratic spirit.
