Cho Se-young, 1st Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Attends Regular Board Meeting of Korea-ASEAN Center... Urges Efforts to Increase Trade and Promote Investment


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 21st, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Cho Se-young, the First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 12th Regular Board of Directors Meeting of the Korea-ASEAN Center held the previous day and urged efforts to increase trade and promote investment between Korea and ASEAN.


At the 12th Regular Board of Directors Meeting held from the 20th to the 21st, Koo Hong-seok, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended as the Korean director, evaluated the Center's activities from last year, and reviewed and approved the Center's projects and budget for 2020.


The Korea-ASEAN Center is an international organization launched in March 2009 by agreement between the governments of Korea and the 10 ASEAN countries to promote regional cooperation between Korea and ASEAN. The Board of Directors is the Center's highest decision-making body, convened in February at the end of the Center's fiscal year, and is composed of senior officials from ASEAN member governments and ASEAN ambassadors to Korea.


In his congratulatory remarks, Vice Minister Cho said, "I hope that the Korea-ASEAN relationship centered on the Korea-ASEAN Center, the only international organization dedicated to ASEAN in Korea, will further develop and deepen," and urged, "Please continue to make special efforts this year to increase trade, promote investment, and revitalize tourism and cultural exchanges between Korea and ASEAN."


The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to actively support the activities of the Korea-ASEAN Center so that it can continue to play a pivotal role as a channel to strengthen cooperation between Korea and ASEAN.
