Fake Video of 'iPhone SE2' Appears on TikTok Ahead of March Release

"Suspected to be a product with a case applied or reformed, not matching iOS"

Fake Video of 'iPhone SE2' Appears on TikTok Ahead of March Release

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Interest is growing in the 'iPhone SE2 (iPhone 9)' set to be unveiled in March, and a video presumed to be disguised as an unreleased new product has even appeared. Considering that the screen shown in the video differs from iOS and the word 'iPhone' is printed below the rear logo, it is highly likely to be fake.

On the 19th (local time), a Twitter user released a video claimed to be of the iPhone 9, shared on the video-based social networking service TikTok. The back is mint-colored with Apple's apple logo and the word 'iPhone,' and there is a single camera lens at the top left. The sides are angular like the iPhone 4, and the junction between the bezel and the side is not smooth, making it look like it has a case on.

AppleInsider pointed out, "The operating system installed on the device does not match iOS," and "The text 'iPhone' is visible on the back, but Apple has abandoned the labeling method of engraving the word 'iPhone' on the back of devices." Since the iPhone 11 series, only Apple's apple-shaped logo is printed on the back, with no 'iPhone' text.

MacRumors explained, "The product image in the video shows thick top and bottom bezels, Touch ID and a home button, and the rear color is green, which does not match any rumors so far, resembling an iPhone 4 style design," adding, "The product in the video is likely an iPhone with a custom case or a refurbished one."

The prevailing expectation is that the iPhone SE2 design will be similar to the 'iPhone 8.' The price is expected to be $399, featuring a 4.7-inch display, an A13 chip, and Touch ID. Apple expert analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also analyzed that Touch ID might be moved to the power button side.

The iPhone SE2 launch event is expected to be held on March 31 (local time). However, due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), Apple might postpone the event or reconsider holding it altogether. Most of the iPhone manufacturing facilities are in China, and since the spread of COVID-19, factories have stopped or failed to operate normally, causing delays in the product release schedule.
