[Interview②] CEO Kwak Sin-ae: "Plagiarism of 'Parasite'? I Haven't Received a Single Call"

Kwak Sin-ae, CEO of Barunson E&A, the producer of "Parasite," addressed the plagiarism claims made in India.

On the afternoon of the 20th, at a press conference held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, CEO Kwak Sin-ae shared various stories about the Oscar-winning film "Parasite" (director Bong Joon-ho).

Earlier, through Indian media such as India Today, PL Thenappan, the producer of the film "Minnal Murali," raised plagiarism allegations, stating that "'Parasite' took the basic plot of the film." He also said that a content certification was sent to the producer of "Parasite" and warned, "If there is no response to the legal notice by the 26th, legal action will be taken."

Regarding this, CEO Kwak Sin-ae said, "We have not received a single phone call." She added, "If it comes, I think we can see what is written and respond accordingly."

CEO Kwak also said, "We are wondering when it will come. As of now, we have received nothing."

"Parasite" is a film that depicts the story of two families whose encounter begins when Ki-woo, the eldest son of the Ki-taek family, all unemployed, steps into the house of Mr. Park for a high-priced tutoring interview, which then escalates into uncontrollable events.

On the 9th (Korean time, the 10th), at the 92nd Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California, USA, the film made Korean cinema history by winning four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best International Feature Film (formerly Best Foreign Language Film).

Additionally, "Parasite" was the first Korean film to win the Palme d'Or at the 72nd Cannes Film Festival, Best Foreign Language Film at the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and both Best Original Screenplay and Best Film Not in the English Language at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).
