‘Guardians of the Sea’ Significant Improvements in Vessel Traffic Control
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] The Namhae Maritime Police Agency announced on the 20th that it plans to invest 4 billion KRW to reinforce its vessel traffic control system.
This is to prevent major accidents such as ▲escape of vulnerable preservation vessels ▲collision of a drunk-operated vessel with Gwangandaegyo Bridge ▲explosion and fire accident of a chemical product carrier in Ulsan, which occurred in its jurisdictional waters last year.
The Namhae Maritime Police Agency plans to replace the old vessel traffic control system and introduce systems such as the ‘Escape Vessel Tracking System’ and the ‘Anchor Dragging Alarm System during Adverse Weather in Anchorage Areas’ to prevent accidents during the foggy spring and rainy seasons at sea.
They also plan to expand the control area by installing advanced radar in Samcheonpo Port, which was not previously a traffic control zone, to eliminate blind spots in monitoring.
As a result, the vessel tracking range will significantly increase, making real-time tracking and monitoring of foreign transit vessels traveling long distances easier.
Kim Honghee, Chief of the Namhae Maritime Police Agency, said, “Maritime traffic control is the guardian of sea safety that prevents marine accidents through efficient vessel traffic management,” and added, “We will further improve the system so that vessel traffic control can fulfill its role and create a safe marine traffic environment.”
