[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province will directly transport international university students entering from countries with confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from Incheon Airport to their respective universities by bus.
On the 20th, Suwon City announced that it plans to transport international students enrolled at Gyeonggi University, Kyung Hee University International Campus, Sungkyunkwan University Natural Science Campus, and Ajou University, all located in Suwon, 2 to 3 times daily from the 24th to the 27th of this month.
The city will verify the list of incoming students submitted by each university and deploy 2 to 4 large buses during peak arrival times. The operation schedule and frequency will be adjusted based on arrival times and the number of international students, and if there are many arrivals, 2 additional small buses will be deployed.
Guidance personnel for international students will be stationed at the airport, and masks and hand sanitizers will be provided on the buses.
Earlier, on the 19th, the city held a 'COVID-19 Response Working Council' meeting with representatives from the four universities to establish the transportation plan for incoming international students.
Since the 14th, the city and local universities have formed a 'COVID-19 Joint Response Council' to cooperate closely.
Gyeonggi University, Sungkyunkwan University Natural Science Campus, and Ajou University are recommending 'dormitory self-quarantine' for international students who have entered from COVID-19 affected countries within the last 14 days.
The city plans to support monitoring by visiting residences of international students living off-campus who do not respond to school monitoring. It will also conduct regular checks on students self-quarantining in dormitories.
Mayor Yeom Tae-young of Suwon emphasized, "We plan to share data related to international students, such as dormitory self-quarantine status and the status of students living off-campus, with universities in real time to manage them thoroughly. We will also regularly check the universities' self-quarantine management status and actively support any areas that need improvement."
