[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Kang Hyo-sang, a member of the Future United Party who had planned to run for Daegu Dalseo-byeong, announced on the 20th that he would give up running in Dalseo-byeong and instead run in the challenging district of Gangbuk, Seoul.

On the same day, Kang held a press conference at the National Assembly Press Center and stated, "I am going to give up all the foundations I have built in Daegu so far and run in the challenging district of Gangbuk, Seoul." This announcement came just two weeks after officially declaring his candidacy for Dalseo-byeong, having completed the nomination application and preliminary candidate registration on the 5th.

He said, "What great meaning would it have if I personally won by running in Daegu, where our party's support is relatively strong, amid the danger of the country heading toward ruin?" He added, "In the current critical situation where South Korea faces an existential crisis, I believe it is time to repay the trust and grace that the party has given me."

Kang said, "I will humbly accept the decision of the nomination committee. Representative Hwang Kyo-ahn also took the lead by running in Jongno." He continued, "As an incumbent proportional representative who has already received the party's trust once, it is only right for me, Kang Hyo-sang, to go to a challenging district myself and become a catalyst for the overall victory of our party." He added, "I will give up the premium of the Daegu nomination and take the lead on the front line in Seoul to reclaim at least one district held by the ruling party."

He said, "Dear residents of Dalseo-byeong, if the United Party is defeated in this general election, South Korea will enter an uncontrollable path of ruin due to the tyranny of the Moon administration, which controls the legislative, judicial, and executive branches."
