[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Former President Lee Myung-bak was sentenced to 17 years in prison in the appellate trial. He had been on trial for charges including embezzlement of funds from the automobile parts company DAS and receiving bribes from Samsung.
The Seoul High Court Criminal Division 1 (Presiding Judge Jung Jun-young) on the 19th sentenced former President Lee, who was indicted on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes, to 17 years in prison, a fine of 13 billion KRW, and a confiscation of approximately 5.78 billion KRW. With the prison sentence, his bail was revoked and he was taken into custody in the courtroom.
