[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Samsung C&T has secured a large-scale construction project worth over 1 trillion KRW in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Samsung C&T announced on the 19th that it won the 'Fujairah F3 Combined Cycle Power Plant Project' commissioned by the UAE Water and Electricity Authority, together with the Japanese developer Marubeni Corporation. The contract amount is 1.15 trillion KRW.
The F3 project involves constructing a combined cycle power plant facility with a maximum capacity of 2,400 MW in the Fujairah region, located about 300 km northeast of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. Samsung C&T will independently carry out engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). Completion is scheduled for April 2023.
The F3 project was planned to ensure stable power supply in the northern region. Samsung C&T succeeded in securing this contract based on its extensive track record in various power plant projects in the Middle East market. Previously, Samsung C&T has executed power plant projects such as the UAE S2 project, UAE Emal 2, Saudi Arabia's Qurayyah and Rabigh 2 IPP, and Qatar's Umm Al Houl IWPP.
The company explained that it enhanced its competitiveness in winning contracts by continuously collaborating with developers who have abundant experience in plant construction. Previously, Samsung jointly executed the Jawa-1 project, Indonesia's largest power plant construction project, with the developer Marubeni Corporation.
A Samsung C&T official said, "This contract is significant as it was secured in the Middle East, a key market for Samsung C&T," adding, "Through this contract, we have once again demonstrated our presence as a global EPC player in the Middle Eastern power generation market."
