[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor You Deok-yeol) operates a passport service counter at night for residents who find it difficult to apply for passports during regular working hours.
The district extends the operating hours of the passport service counter by 2 hours from 6 PM to 8 PM every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, providing the same services as during daytime hours, including △passport application acceptance △passport issuance △issuance of passport issuance record certificates.
In particular, the night reception operation of the passport service counter three times a week is unique among the 25 district offices in Seoul, receiving great response from residents who can only find time after work.
Along with the extended night operation of the passport service counter, the district offers various customer-tailored passport-related services such as △sending text message notifications for passport receipt △operating the ‘Bodeumnuri Happiness Counter,’ a priority counter for pregnant women, companions with infants and young children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities △producing and distributing passport protective covers.
You Deok-yeol, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, “We are extending night hours for residents who find it difficult to visit during the day for passport issuance,” and added, “We will continue to do our best to provide administrative services that deliver impression and happiness to residents.”
Last year, Dongdaemun-gu processed a total of about 5,000 cases during the extended hours alone, including approximately 2,500 passport applications and 2,400 passport issuances, significantly improving residents’ satisfaction with passport issuance services.
