Neighborhood Park Caretakers Self-Recruitment... Volunteer Activities Like Planting Flowers and Trees, Environmental Cleanup at Preferred Times Such as Once a Week or Once a Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) is continuously recruiting ‘Park Caretakers’ who take care of neighborhood parks on their own.
‘Park Caretakers’ are volunteer workers who adopt parks desired by local residents and voluntarily maintain them beautifully and cleanly. This program is popular because participants can choose the dates and activities they want to engage in.
Last year, 320 people participated as Park Caretakers, and it is expected that even more residents will join in 2020.
Residents who wish to participate can apply through the ‘Seoul’s Mountains and Parks’ website (parks.seoul.go.kr).
Alternatively, applicants can visit the Jungnang-gu Office’s Parks and Greenery Division with the required documents or apply via email (sjh1103@jn.go.kr). The required documents can be downloaded from the Jungnang-gu Office website (General Civil Affairs → Civil Service Forms).
Applications can be made individually or by groups (schools, companies, families, civic organizations, etc.), and applicants can choose from 88 parks including children’s parks. After screening, Park Caretakers who sign an agreement with the district will carry out activities once a week or once a month at their preferred times until December of the application year.
Activities include cleaning, planting flowers and trees, reporting damaged park facilities and hazards, and safety patrols.
Additionally, participation through talent donation such as performances is also possible.
Park Caretakers are provided with necessary supplies such as garbage bags and gloves, and volunteer hours can be recognized through linkage with 1365. After activities, participants are required to submit a review on the ‘Friends of the Park’ section of the ‘Seoul’s Mountains and Parks’ website to report their results.
For further inquiries, visit the ‘Seoul’s Mountains and Parks’ website (parks.seoul.go.kr) or contact the Jungnang-gu Office Parks and Greenery Division at ☎2094-2363 for detailed guidance.
Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi stated, “We expect that the Park Caretaker activities, voluntarily participated in by residents, will contribute to creating a beautiful park environment.”
