Jang Seong-bae Preliminary Candidate: "A 'Prestigious Middle School' Should Be Established in the Northern Area of Suncheon"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Jang Seong-bae, a preliminary candidate of the Alternative Party running for the Suncheon City electoral district in the 21st National Assembly election, announced a pledge to establish a replacement middle school following the relocation of Samsan Middle School.

According to preliminary candidate Jang Seong-bae on the 17th, Samsan Middle School, located in the northern area of Suncheon, is scheduled to relocate to the southern area, Shindae District, by March this year, just before the new school term begins.

The concern lies in what will happen after Samsan Middle School moves to Shindae District.

Preliminary candidate Jang emphasized, “The population in Seomyeon and Yongdang-dong areas of Suncheon is increasing, and new apartments are being built in Maegok-dong, Samsan-dong, and Dongoe-dong areas, so the situation has changed significantly since the decision to relocate Samsan Middle School to Shindae District was made.”

He continued, “Due to the relocation of Samsan Middle School, students from the original downtown areas such as Seomyeon, Yongdang-dong, Maegok-dong, Seokhyeon-dong, Okcheon-dong, Hyang-dong, Jungang-dong, and Jangcheon-dong will have to commute relatively long distances, which could infringe upon their educational rights.”

In response, preliminary candidate Jang stated, “To guarantee commuting rights and the right to receive quality education for students in Suncheon, a ‘prestigious middle school’ must be established for students in Seomyeon, Yongdang-dong, Samsan-dong, and Maegok-dong.”

Finally, he added, “Article 31 of the Constitution guarantees the right to education, which under no circumstances can be overridden by other considerations. Students in the original downtown areas also have the right to quality education, and students in Seomyeon face significant commuting difficulties. Moreover, unlike at the time of the decision to relocate Samsan Middle School, the population in Seomyeon, Yongdang-dong, and Maegok-dong is increasing, so a prestigious middle school is needed in the northern area of Suncheon,” explaining the reason for expanding middle schools.
