[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI showed mixed trends throughout the day and closed slightly lower. The KOSDAQ index ended higher for the sixth consecutive trading day but failed to recover the 700 level.
On the 17th, the KOSPI closed at 2242.17, down 1.42 points (0.06%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started lower and fluctuated around the 2240 level throughout the day before closing down.
Looking at trading trends by investor type, foreign investors sold a net 228.7 billion KRW. In contrast, individual and institutional investors bought a net 195 billion KRW and 15 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, electric and gas utilities (1.53%), textiles and apparel (1.27%), and chemicals (0.79%) rose, while securities (-0.84%), services (-0.69%), and non-metallic minerals (-0.71%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Celltrion (2.76%), Hyundai Motor (1.50%), LG Chem (1.45%), and NAVER (1.07%) rose, whereas Shinhan Financial Group (-2.25%), Samsung Biologics (-1.89%), and Samsung Electronics (-0.49%) fell.
On the day, the KOSPI market saw 319 stocks rise without any hitting the upper limit, 488 stocks fall without any hitting the lower limit, and 96 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index continued its upward trend for the sixth consecutive day. The KOSDAQ, which started higher, maintained a rise of around 0.5% during the session and closed at 692.59, up 3.68 points (0.53%) from the previous day.
By investor type, individual investors bought a net 85 billion KRW, while institutional and foreign investors sold a net 35.1 billion KRW and 33.7 billion KRW, respectively.
By sector, transportation (6.28%), distribution (2.39%), and IT components (1.75%) rose, while other services (-0.94%), construction (-0.72%), and paper and wood (-0.65%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, ITM Semiconductor (6.05%), Celltrion Healthcare (5.06%), and Paradise (0.77%) rose, while EcoPro BM (-2.49%), Hugel (-2.24%), and SK Materials (-1.19%) fell.
On the day, the KOSDAQ market saw 636 stocks rise, including 4 stocks hitting the upper limit, 609 stocks fall without any hitting the lower limit, and 101 stocks remained unchanged.
