Prime Minister Jeong Encourages 173 Wuhan Returnees Leaving Temporary Facilities: "Thank You for Your Cooperation" Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun visited the National Human Resources Development Institute for Public Officials in Jincheon, Chungbuk on the 15th to encourage the Korean residents from Wuhan, China, who completed a two-week quarantine, and inspected the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' on-site situation room.


[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun visited the National Human Resources Development Institute for Public Officials in Jincheon, Chungbuk on the 15th to see off the Chinese evacuees from Wuhan who had completed a two-week quarantine. He also encouraged the government joint support team and local government field situation room officials who had supported the evacuees during their stay.


The 173 Wuhan evacuees, who returned to Korea on the first chartered flight through Gimpo Airport on the 31st of last month and were admitted here, all tested negative for the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).


Prime Minister Chung expressed his gratitude and encouragement to the Wuhan evacuees through an announcement within the National Human Resources Development Institute for Public Officials in Jincheon. He said, "The evacuees must have felt frustrated and uncomfortable during the two weeks, but I thank you for actively cooperating with the government's quarantine policies with mature civic awareness."


He added, "As the saying goes, Saenggeo Jincheon, I hope that your time in Jincheon, a place known for its good land and generous people, was meaningful," and "Please take care of your health and enjoy happiness in your daily lives."


The evacuees leaving the facility will move to five regions including Seoul, Daegu, Chungbuk, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam by buses prepared in advance. They receive health education to contact 1339 and health centers if symptoms occur.


Afterwards, Prime Minister Chung received a report on the operation status of the temporary living facilities from Kim Gye-jo, Director of the Disaster and Safety Management Headquarters at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and encouraged the government joint support team workers.


He said, "I appreciate the efforts of the government joint support team who carefully took care of pregnant women and children," and "I hope you take sufficient rest and return to your original duties in good health."


Prime Minister Chung then visited the field situation room of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in Jincheon and Eumseong counties.


At the site, he said, "I thank the field officials who worked hard to alleviate the anxiety of local residents and to ensure that the Wuhan evacuees could return home in good health," and "Please continue to work together for the end of the COVID-19 situation and the recovery of daily life in the local community."


Prime Minister Chung moved to Jincheon Central Market and held a meeting with local residents and merchants. He said, "Despite various concerns, I appreciate the residents for warmly welcoming the evacuees," and "The volunteer activities of Jincheon citizens and the active support of public officials led to a successful discharge."


He emphasized, "Although traditional market small business owners face difficulties, we will make every effort to alleviate these hardships and enable active economic activities."
