On February 6th, the American Pistachio Association held a seminar and cooking class titled "Reasons to Eat American Pistachios" at Space M in Hongdae.
The green-hued nut, pistachio, is rich in protein, healthy fats, fiber, and essential nutrients that our bodies need daily. Despite containing large amounts of essential vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber, a single serving of 28g (about 49 nuts) contains just around 160 calories, making it the lowest-calorie nut. Additionally, its convenience as a snack has made it popular among consumers who diet and exercise, serving as a great nutritional source before and after workouts. Recently, various studies have been conducted on the health and nutritional benefits provided by pistachios.
At the American Pistachio Nutrition Seminar held on February 6th, Professor Kim Mi-ok from the Department of Food and Nutrition at Daegu University participated as a speaker, introducing "Reasons to Eat American Pistachios" to about 20 consumers aged 20 to 60 who are highly interested in healthy food, nutrition, and fitness.
Professor Kim Mi-ok emphasized the health and nutritional benefits, the physiological effects of American pistachio nutrients, and ways to consume pistachios, explaining, "American pistachios have the lowest calories among nuts and are rich in essential vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber. Consuming American pistachios during dieting and exercise helps maintain health."
She added, "Also, because they are high in fiber and good fats, pairing American pistachios with high glycemic index foods like potatoes or pasta can reduce blood sugar responses, helping to maintain blood sugar levels. It is important to consume an appropriate amount steadily throughout the day rather than eating a large quantity at once."
Following the nutrition seminar, a cooking class was held led by cooking researcher Ji Eun-joo from Happy Cooks, introducing recipes to enjoy American pistachios more deliciously.
Cooking researcher Ji Eun-joo introduced menus ideal for consumption during exercise, such as "Pistachio Salad," which enhances the nutty flavor by roasting pistachios and adding them to a simple salad, and "Pistachio Cheese Sauce and Open Toast," a menu for post-workout nutrition. She also presented a sweet dessert menu called "Pistachio Serradura," which pairs well with fresh fruit, receiving enthusiastic responses for offering unique ways to enjoy American pistachios.
