[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Park Hyung-jun, chairman of the Unified New Party Preparation Committee (Tongjunwi), which is promoting centrist-conservative integration, announced on the 14th that the leadership of the unified new party, 'Mirae Tonghapdang' (Future United Party), will increase the number of members in the existing Liberty Korea Party's Supreme Council by four.
After the Tongjunwi meeting ended that day, Chairman Park told reporters, "The Supreme Council will increase by four members (from the Liberty Korea Party's Supreme Council)," revealing this decision.
Among the four members, there is consensus within Tongjunwi on two. He explained, "It is not finalized yet, but current lawmakers will not be included, and there is no disagreement about Governor Won Hee-ryong of Jeju and Lee Jun-seok, the youth supreme council member of the New Conservative Party," adding, "The task force will discuss lawmakers until Sunday."
Regarding the Nomination Management Committee, he said, "It will be within 13 members, but whether to increase the number from the existing one will be decided after the new leadership is formed and consultations with the Nomination Committee," adding, "At this point, it is unknown how much the number will increase."
Meanwhile, on the same day, civic groups protested against the composition of the Nomination Committee and leadership and resigned from the Tongjunwi. In response, Chairman Park said, "There was strong opposition to the Nomination Committee issue, and agreement was not reached until the end," adding, "Although they decided to resign, in today's meeting, we agreed to respect the civic groups and find ways to reflect their intentions even if it is not through the Nomination Committee."
Regarding the formation of the Future United Party's election campaign committee, he explained, "We decided to form an election campaign committee that can receive broad public support," adding, "It will be a considerably wide-ranging election campaign system, and the composition will be discussed after the launch of the new unified party."
