[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Seoul Subway Line 1 experienced delays, causing inconvenience to commuters, but Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), which operates the trains, announced that recovery has been completed.
At around 2:40 a.m. on the 14th, a track maintenance equipment vehicle derailed at Guro Station in Seoul.
Due to this accident, the northbound trains on Line 1 operated only between Incheon and Yongsan Station on the Gyeongin Line and between Cheonan and Yongsan Station on the Gyeongbu Line for a time, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. There were no disruptions to southbound trains, KTX, or regular train services.
Some electric trains bound for Incheon to Soyosan Station were rerouted via the Gyeongwon Line from Noryangjin Station toward Cheongnyangni Station. Northbound electric trains on the Gyeongbu Line also operated only between Cheonan and Yongsan Station.
Immediately after the accident, KORAIL dispatched an emergency recovery team to the site to carry out restoration work. It is expected to take some time to determine the cause of the accident.
KORAIL announced that after completing emergency recovery work, train operations on the entire northbound line resumed from 6:35 a.m. Additionally, the Gwangmyeong Shuttle train running between Yeongdeungpo Station and Gwangmyeong Station resumed service at 7:00 a.m.
Currently, the shuttle electric trains operating between Gwangmyeong Station and Yeongdeungpo Station are also running normally from 7:00 a.m.
