[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Seoul National University has decided to postpone the start of the semester by two weeks due to the impact of COVID-19.
On the 12th, Seoul National University held an academic committee meeting and postponed the semester start date from March 2 to March 16. The end of the semester was delayed by one week to June 19, and the regular semester class period was shortened to 14 weeks.
Earlier, on the 4th, Seoul National University held a countermeasure meeting to discuss responses to COVID-19.
However, only the cancellation of the entrance ceremony, simplification of the winter degree conferment ceremony (graduation ceremony), and faculty retirement ceremony were decided, and the postponement of the semester start date was not specifically determined. This was due to overlapping issues such as changes in the academic schedule, the tight period for canceling course registration, postponement of the seasonal semester start, and shortening of seasonal semester classes.
Ultimately, as concerns about COVID-19 grew and major universities decided to postpone the start and end of semesters, Seoul National University appears to have made this final decision as well.
