Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education and the Democratic Movement Memorial Foundation Sign Business Agreement


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education has joined hands with the Democracy Movement Memorial Association to revitalize school democratic citizenship education.


The Office of Education announced on the 11th that it signed a business agreement with the Democracy Movement Memorial Association to "revitalize democratic citizenship education" and decided to expand democratic citizenship education.


About ten people attended the agreement ceremony, including Superintendent Jang Seok-woong and other executives from the Office of Education, as well as Chairman Ji Seon of the Democracy Movement Memorial Association and related personnel.


Through this agreement, the two organizations agreed to closely cooperate on ▲utilizing human and material resources and sharing information ▲teacher training related to school democratic citizenship education ▲joint development of democratic citizenship education materials and programs ▲cooperative operation of various projects related to democratic citizenship education.


In particular, to strengthen democratic citizenship education in schools within Jeonnam Province, they plan to build a network with capable institutions to spread consensus on democratic citizenship education and apply participatory democratic citizenship education programs in school settings.


The Democracy Movement Memorial Association is a public institution under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety established to contribute to the development of democracy. It promotes various projects to nationally inherit and develop the spirit of the democracy movement, including the establishment of the Democracy Movement Memorial Hall, organizing democracy movement commemorative and memorial events, and operating democratic citizenship education programs.


Superintendent Jang Seok-woong said, "Students, as members of our society, should be provided with various opportunities to voluntarily acquire democratic attitudes and skills in their daily lives," adding, "We will strengthen participatory and practical democratic citizenship education through cooperation with the Democracy Movement Memorial Association."


Starting from the 1st of next month, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education will establish the "Department of Democratic Citizenship Life Education" as part of an organizational restructuring. By expanding its organizational scope, it plans to strengthen democratic citizenship education across classroom instruction and overall school culture through close collaboration with various departments, affiliated institutions, and education support offices, while also enhancing cooperation with related organizations and the local community.
