[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Yoseop] Ulsan City announced that on the 11th at 4 p.m., it will hold the final report meeting for the 'Seongam Incineration Plant (Units 1 and 2) Reconstruction Feasibility Study and Basic Plan Establishment Service' at the city hall conference room, attended by about 20 people including Kim Sang-yuk, Director of the Environment Bureau, Ulsan city council members, and waste management experts.

This service is being promoted to secure a replacement incineration facility as the durability period of Seongam Incineration Plant Units 1 and 2, installed and operated since 2000, has expired. Geonhwa Co., Ltd. started the project in May last year and plans to complete it this month.

The report meeting will proceed with an explanation of the progress, and discussions on the reconstruction plan of the Ulsan incineration plant by attending experts and related departments.

The reconstruction location of the incineration plant is being considered at the parking lot next to the existing incinerators Units 1 and 2. The incinerators' capacity will be expanded from the existing 200 tons per day × 2 units to 250 tons per day × 2 units to ensure there is no disruption in processing combustible household waste generated in Ulsan.

In particular, due to the increased steam production from the incineration plant reconstruction, it is expected that tax revenue will increase by 7.4 billion KRW from the existing annual 7.6 billion KRW to 15 billion KRW through the sale of steam and electricity.

The project method will be promoted as a financial project to reduce reconstruction and operation costs of the incineration plant. The total project cost is 190 billion KRW.

Ulsan City plans to apply for national funding and request central investment review after completing the basic plan for the incineration plant reconstruction.

Construction is expected to start in 2022 and be completed in 2025.

Kang Hong-kwon, Director of the Resource Circulation Division of Ulsan City, explained, "We will actively proceed with related procedures to secure a replacement facility for household waste incineration that is suitable for the urban environment, stable, and economical," adding, "We requested an exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the incineration plant reconstruction to the Ministry of Environment at the end of last month and are making efforts such as prior consultation with the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office for national funding support."
