[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju Western Fire Station (Chief Kim Young-don) has launched a campaign to raise awareness of evacuation facilities such as lightweight partition walls in apartments, as the use of fire sources increases in winter, leading to a higher incidence of fires.
According to the Western Fire Station on the 11th, lightweight partition walls are designed for evacuation to neighboring units in case it is difficult to escape through entrances or stairs during a fire.
This area should not be used for other purposes, such as installing built-in closets or storage cabinets on the lightweight partition walls to solve the lack of storage space, as it is an emergency evacuation space.
To this end, the fire authorities are working hard to prevent fires in multi-family housing by promoting evacuation guidance for lightweight partition walls in apartments, prohibiting parking in fire truck-only zones within apartment complexes, providing information on installing automatic door closers on rooftop access doors, and broadcasting fire prevention announcements during winter.
Kim Young-don, chief of the Western Fire Station, said, “Proper use of apartment lightweight partition walls can have life-saving effects,” adding, “If residents are familiar with the exact location and usage instructions in advance, it can be of great help in emergencies.”
