BTS J-Hope Fans Donate Masks to Buk-gu, Gwangju


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Fans of BTS member J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) carried out a good deed to celebrate J-Hope's upcoming birthday (February 18).


According to Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Moon In) on the 11th, members of J-Hope’s fan communities ‘Hope On The World J-Hope Fanbase’ and ‘Choi-ae-dol J-Hope Community’ recently raised funds and donated 1,640 health masks (KF94, worth approximately 3.28 million KRW) in J-Hope’s name.


This donation marks the second consecutive year following the 128 bags of rice donated last year by members of the ‘Choi-ae-dol J-Hope Community.’


J-Hope, who hails from Buk-gu, Gwangju, debuted in 2013 as a member of BTS and has been actively promoting, receiving awards at the Billboard Music Awards and American Music Awards in the United States.


Notably, on the 27th of last month, he attended the Grammy Awards?the most prestigious event in the pop music world?as the first Korean singer, earning worldwide praise for a performance that transcended race, age, and language.


The J-Hope fan members who organized this donation stated, “J-Hope has always spread positive influence to many people through music and charity,” and added, “Following last year, we made a meaningful contribution to Buk-gu, Gwangju, J-Hope’s hometown, to commemorate his birthday this year as well.”


A Buk-gu official said, “It seems that J-Hope’s positive influence has been passed on to his fans, leading to this donation,” and added, “We express our gratitude to J-Hope’s fans for planning such a meaningful event again this year, and the donated masks will be properly distributed to vulnerable groups struggling due to the coronavirus.”


Meanwhile, J-Hope donated a total of 250 million KRW last year, including 150 million KRW to the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation and 100 million KRW to his alma mater, Gwangju International High School. BTS, the group to which J-Hope belongs, has also been continuously engaged in good deeds, conducting the ‘#ENDviolence’ campaign with UNICEF for children worldwide and donating a total of 2.6 billion KRW over the past two years.
