[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Suncheon City in Jeonnam is achieving good results by continuously promoting projects that bring new life to the deteriorated city.
According to Suncheon City on the 10th, the "Cheongsugol Saetteul Village Project" was selected as the best institution for three consecutive years in the evaluation of the Urban Saetteul Village Project performance conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
This evaluation is an annual assessment by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to determine whether the Saetteul Village Project, which has been promoted since 2015 to improve the residential environment in underdeveloped urban hillside neighborhoods, is being smoothly implemented according to the project plan.
The evaluation targets 95 areas selected by the National Balanced Development Committee as Saetteul Village Project sites due to the need for improvement in areas such as houses over 30 years old, poor road conditions, and significantly lower rates of water supply, sewage, and city gas compared to other regions.
The main evaluation criteria focused on project execution, project outcomes, and post-management, checking whether sustainable village communities are being established through residents' capabilities and economic independence via jobs.
The Cheongsugol Saetteul Village Project has focused on improving the residential environment since 2015 by completing fire roads, a residents' community center, Anryeoksan Medical Culture Center, home repairs, city gas supply, maintenance of disaster-risk facilities, and CCTV installation.
In particular, the Cheongsujeong Cooperative established by residents operates the Cheongsujeong Cafe (selling meals like Eomni Bapsang and tea) and sells the traditional snack "Cheongsugol Ae Oranda," increasing residents' income. Over the past year, 15,790 people from 34 institutions have visited, making it a top destination for advanced site tours nationwide.
A city official stated, "Suncheon City is promoting the 3rd phase station area urban regeneration New Deal project and the 2nd phase Saetteul Village projects (Deokyeon Sinhwa Village, Juam Administrative Village). Based on the project achievements so far, we will accelerate 'urban regeneration projects with residents' and 'creating better living spaces for citizens.'"
